Our Journey
Afro Beans was founded by two childhood friends who share a lifelong love for coffee and the culture around it. Hand-roasted coffee was a cultural staple in their home and community, and as teenage baristas, they began their learning journey. From their shared curiosity and passion for travel, they developed a particular interest in coffee culture abroad, traveling from Cuba and Colombia to Ethiopia and Tanzania to experience local craft and communal qualities of coffee. Through the intersection of craftsmanship and culture, they refined the brand concept and incubated their venture in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Our Mission
Beyond crafting exceptionally tasting coffee, we seek to capture as much of the value chain as possible in emerging economies. Today, we process, roast, blend, and package our coffee in Ethiopia. In addition to fair trade, we strongly believe in value-add processing as a fundamental part of agribusiness and a growth opportunity for job creation.
We also dream of reimagining coffee producing countries as more than just raw commodity exporters. Though known for production volume and quality, we draw particular inspiration from countries like Brazil, Colombia and Ethiopia because of their vibrant coffee cultures. We aspire to create a global community through Afro Beans that reflects the cultural dynamism of countries we source from.
